Alencon Inverter Systems

Alencon systems are based on patent-pending multiphase grid synchronized regulated current source inverter (MPGS-RCSI) technology. Each Alencon inverter system consists of three to 40 Grid Inverter Package (GrIP) modules, all of which share a common 2500V DC bus. The AC outputs are connected to the high voltage electrical grid via a set of harmonic suppressing transformers. This design allows for the generation of high quality AC current, while each GrIP module operates at line frequency. Redundant digital controls assure high reliability for the entire system. On utility demand the system can generate power with a power factor of +/-0.9 to compensate reactive loads. An Alencon system will continue to generate AC current in synchronization with the grid even during significant drop in, or loss of, the grid voltage.

Power on wheels

The rugged GrIP modules constitute the backbone of an Alencon system. These compact, water cooled units pack 2,500kW of capacity into a 1m×1m×2.2m package - ten times smaller than commonplace inverters. High reliability and 100% performance during any weather conditions is achieved by generating a micro-climate inside the sealed cabinet. Extremely low semiconductors' switching losses result in high 99.1 CEC power conversion efficiency†.

Mounted on a set of heavy-duty wheels, each GrIP can be moved in and out of its base-station for safe and easy installation, maintenance and replacement while the rest of the system remains online. An inner transparent Plexiglas panel provides visibility of the internal power components while proving an additional safety barrier for the maintenance personnel.
